Sea Kayaking the Ionian Ring

Sea kayak in crystal blue seas, sleep under the stars in isolated beaches, sample real Greek life.
This program is designed for those who enjoy sea kayaking and desire to discover the hidden beauties of Greece.
Set in crystal clear waters, dozens of islands extend from uninhabited sandy beaches to forested mountains rearing high out of ocean. Every day, we are paddling in the area's protected waters and every evening we explore the islets interior offering excellent hiking opportunities amongst cypress lines whilst enjoying sweeping views and idyllic sunsets.
The trip starts and ends in Vasiliki bay Lefkada, where you have to arrive the night before the beginning of the program. For travel arrangements to/from Athens please contact us.
Day by day program:
DAY 1: VASSILIKI - AGIOFILI - SIVOTA Distance 9 Nm
Arrive at our base in Vassiliki before 9am to meet your guide. Check our kayaking equipment, run through basic kayak instruction and pack your gear for the trip. Excess luggage is safely stored at our base. Full briefing takes 40 min. Visit Agiofili beach and Ammousa bay. Camp at the isolated beach of Cyclope. You can have a romantic dinner on the beach or you can trek for 30 minutes to the traditional fishing village of Siviota for dinner.
DAY 2: LEFKADA, - MEGANISI,- KALAMOS -distance 17Nm
Cross channel to Megainisi Island and follow breathtaking Meganisi western coastline. Highlights: coastal cliffs, sea caves-including huge Papanikolaos Cave, deep turquoise lagoons, snorkelling, cliff jumping. Cross channel to Kalamos. Break at Porto Leone- a disused old port scattered with ancient windmills. Picnic lunch under shade of Orthodox Church. Continue to Kalamos harbour- set up camp at nearby quiet Myrties beach. Walk to port for taverna dinner. Camping overnight
DAY 3: KALAMOS & KASTOS -distance 13Nm (optional paddle)
Free day on sparkling Myrties beach, walk up the hill above Kalamos port to explore beautiful village with traditional stone houses and narrow lanes. Optional paddle (20km return) to Kastos island -seasonal population 150. Visit beautifully restored Kastos windmill, and stop in at café bar with sweeping Ionian views. Picnic lunch on the beach. Dinner at Kalamos seaside taverna. 2nd night Myrties camping.
DAY 4: KALAMOS, MEGANISI - paddling distance- 12Nm
After an early camp breakfast, we continue east along the coastline towards Meganisi island. On route we stop for snorkeling inside a hidden, deep sea cave with its colourful reef- the rock passage just outside is home to many giant red starfish. On most days’ water inside the cave is phosphorescent - with the effect that while swimming, your body will glow in the dark with fantastic neon blue ‘aura’. We cross the narrow channel to Meganisi Island. Visit the capital of Meganissi (Vathi) and spend the night in the uninhabited islet of Thilia.
DAY 5: SCORPIOS ISLE, MEGANISI - paddling distance 8Nm
Today we do a day trip to the island if Scorpios - owned by Greek shipping tycoon Aristotle Onasis. Kayak past Jackie O’s chic beach hut right on the water's. Swim and picnic at the only beach open to the public. Paddle to Madouri Ilset, belonging to famous Greek poet Aristotelis Valaoritis. Return to Agios Ioannis beach for Camping and dinner in a local taverna.
DAY 6: MEGANISSI - POROS - SIVOTA - paddling distance 8Nm
Today we visit and snorkel in the bat cave. We stop at Poros village for lunch and we paddle to our last destination in Sivota bay.
